Nuns and Printmaking

Sister Mary Corita was a nun who, in the 1960s and 70s, designed a whole bunch of pretty awesome posters.

You should check out here work here and here.

Also, GoogleImages will probably help you out.

In any case, you should definitely look in to her work.

So this citation should appear to be abouuuut the right size (5 by 7). This is about as small as you want to go, but it's still pretty legible. Behold your unobtrusive citation.

pretty

Interesting & smaller examples of typography.
The site itself is pretty swoon-worthy. 9000 vs 0006

food

When I first found this site, I got hungry whether or not I'd eaten prior. Not type related, but rather fun(?): Tastespotting.

silly design snobbery

DesignPolice has downloadable "kits" alerting against bad design. My personal favorites: Learn Colour Theory, Comic Sans is illegal, & Unnecessary use of Photoshop effect. To be honest, I've probably committed the first and last "crime" too much already.
(via passive aggressive notes) Thanks Jon.

Things to Look At

This blog is a great resource for typography (has a post about Letman, who Caroline recently posted about), and graphic design in general.

The Book Cover Archive

A website devoted entirely to book cover design. Found on Joanna Goddard's blog, A Cup of Jo. Here's one of her favorites:

You should check out a designer known as "Letman." He is big on hand-done type. Very neat, some funky stuff going on.

Can't "Identifont"

Always wondered what some font was and couldn't quite figure it out? You probably shouldn't use Identifont to determine what it was. I tried to have the site identify Acanthus-Bold by going through the "Identify by appearance" option, which asks a series of questions about the shapes of the letters and serifs.
The problem is that if you see a font on the street and want to identify it, the questions about specific numbers or symbols which you might not have at your disposal prove useless. After going through all of the questions, the site identified the font as Ehrhardt - which isn't even that similar to Acanthus. So if you have a random typeface you want to find the name of, you may be better off scrolling through the FontReserve.
